The Kruger National Park (KNP) is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and a thrilling safari experience. Hop on one of our Open Safari Vehicles and immerse yourself in the true beauty of the African bush with our skilled, knowledgeable, and specialised safari guides, which will guide and interpret the wildlife in the bush for you. They will teach and give you detailed explanations of some of the 147 species of mammals and some of the more than 500 species of birds that call the KNP their home.

Full Day Game Drive in the Kruger National Park

Full Day Game Drive

The Full Day Game Drives, from early morning and last around 9 to 10 hours.

The Game Drive can start at any of the entry gates into the Kruger, namely Phalaborwa-, Orpen-, Phabeni-, Paul Kruger-, Malelane- and Crocodile Bridge Gate.

You also have the option of a Full Day Game Drive where we will be collected you from any lodge or hotel close to the gates where private OSV entry is permitted at a small additional cost.

All our extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced guides are well-trained and have a Theta Nature Site Guide qualification, a Cultural Guide Qualification, a First Aid Certificate, and a Professional Driving Permit. Our driver guides all adhere to a strict Code of Conduct.

Morning Game drives (AM) will be from early morning for about 4 to 5 hours.

The Game Drive can start at any of the entry gates into The Kruger, namely Phalaborwa-, Orpen-, Phabeni-, Paul Kruger-, Malelane- and Crocodile Bridge Gate.

Afternoon Game Drives (PM), collection after 12h00 for around 4 to 5 hours.

Our Safari Field Guides have an immersed passion for the African Bush and a greater passion for people. No question is too big or too small to answer and they will share their knowledge and information with you. Learn from them and discover anything from the smallest creature, the big, impressive Elephants, the beautiful variety of Birds, or the foliage that all make the Kruger a fantastic wildlife experience. You will learn while you are relaxing and enjoying the African Bush up close on one of our Open Safari vehicles. Climate: During summer it will get very hot – up to a high of 35°C / °100F during the day and during the winter months temperatures will be around 25°C / °75F during the daytime.

In summer mornings and evenings, the temperature will be around 20°C / °68F, and the temperatures during winter mornings and evenings will drop to single didges and sometimes even below 0°C/F.

We suggest that during the hot summer months, light cotton shirts are advisable. Be advised that the sun is VERY harsh, and we do not suggest open/strapless shirts for ladies, as you will get sunburn on the open vehicles even if the OSVs are all equipped with a canvas roof. Please ensure your skin is covered with sunscreen to protect you against the sun.

During the colder winter months, it can get very chilly during the early morning drives. Dress warm in trousers, closed shoes, and a warm jacket, scarf, and a beanie if preferred, to protect you from the cold wind at the back of the vehicle.

Your guide will return you to your collection venue after the day in the park, and you will be filled with content and gratified after a perfect day in the Perfect Park.

  • Blankets and Rain Ponchos for each guest in case it’s cold or rainy to borrow for the day,
  • 2 Complimentary still mineral waters,
  • All our vehicles are equipped with two-way radio communication.

Pack your own basket for breakfast or lunch inside the KNP (Kruger National Park). Your guide will ensure he is at a rustic picnic site inside the KNP for your breakfast or lunch if you prefer. Or have breakfast at one of the restaurants inside the camps for breakfast or lunch for your own account.

You are welcome to take snacks or extra drinks with you to enjoy while you are on the game drive.

(Please take note that no alcohol is permitted for day visitors in the park).

The Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers nearly 20 million hectares of unrivalled diversity of life forms, and fuses with historical and archaeological sites – this is real Africa. It extends to 360 km (220 miles) from north to south and 65 km (40 miles) from east to west. The park was first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898 and it became South Africa’s first national park in 1926. The Kruger National Park is now part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a piece of the park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhoe National Park in Zimbabwe, and Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.

The park is part of the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere and a UNESCO site as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve.

The Kruger location is at the very top right corner of South Africa and borders the countries of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. There are 9 gates to enter the park, and the towns close to the gates are:

NORTHERN GATES

  • Pafuri Gate – Rural towns included Thohoyandou region – travel past Louis Trichardt towards most northern parts of Limpopo. Pafuri is 185km from Louis Trichardt and it will take you 2 hours and 15 minutes to the gate.
  • Punda Maria Gate – Rural towns included Thohoyandou regions – travel past Louis Trichardt to Punda Gate. Punda Maria gate is 141 km from Louis Trichardt and will take you 2 hours and 18 minutes to the gate.

CENTER GATES

  • Phalaborwa Gate – Phalaborwa, the gate is on the edge of the town.
  • Open Gate – Hazyview, which is 20 km from Hazyview town center and about a 30-minute drive.
  • Phabeni Gate – A large quartzite column rising from a deep gorge.
  • Paul Kruger Gate - Hazyview, which is 44km from the town center and about a 45-minute drive to the gate.
  • Numbi Gate - Hazyview, which is 17km from the town center, will take you 25 min. (You travel through rural areas).

SOUTHERN GATES

  • Malelane Gate - Malelane, the gate is on the outskirts of the town area.
  • Crocodile Bridge Gate - Komatipoort, which is 15 km from the gate and takes you about 20 minutes to the gate.
